On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Centre of Asian Research on watEr (CARE) organized a seminar featuring recent research on water and environmental issues in Vietnam.
The program included three insightful presentations:
Pauline Funk (École normale supérieure; Master intern at CARE) examined the history and persistence of family wells in Ho Chi Minh City, from colonial times to the present, highlighting how perceptions of water quality and household autonomy continue to shape current practices.
In the absence of Trần Bá Lộc (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - HCMUT, research group of Dr. Hà Quang Khải), Dr. Hà Quang Khải presented research on groundwater quality in HCMC. Using multivariate analysis and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) applied to 440 samples, the study identified key drivers of groundwater pollution.
Nguyễn Ngọc Tường Trí (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - HCMUT, research group of Dr. Hà Quang Khải) shared preliminary findings on anthropogenic impacts in the Cần Giờ Mangrove Forest, emphasizing the ecosystem's capacity to retain pollutants, particularly rare earth elements.
CARE appreciates the valuable contributions of the presenters and the lively discussions of the participants in the seminar.
