On December 19th, 2024, CARE had the distinct honor of hosting Olivier Poivre d’Arvor, Ambassador for the Poles and Oceans and the French President's Special Envoy to the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), for a field trip along the Saigon River.
The visit provided an opportunity to showcase CARE’s ongoing research on water quality and coastal management. The trip included stops at key points along the Saigon River, where CARE researchers shared insights from their decade-long studies on the flow of chemical elements, including nutrients and pollutants, from rivers to the East Sea of Vietnam. At each stop, the research teams presented their work on pollutant dynamics, sampling techniques, and the environmental challenges facing the region. Discussions also highlighted CARE’s studies on erosion and hydrodynamics, which significantly impact the southern Vietnamese coastline.
Ambassador Olivier Poivre d’Arvor’s visit underscored the strong partnership between Vietnam and France in addressing shared environmental concerns. This collaboration reinforces CARE’s dedication to advancing water and coastal research while ensuring that science informs policy at both local and international levels.
